Section 83 of the Constitution of Botswana provides that there shall be committees which shall be appointed at the commencement of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi sitting or during the course thereof.

A Member of a committee shall hold office for a period of two and half years from the date of appointment.

The following shall be the committees appointed in accordance with sub-rule (1);

  1. Management Committee
  2. Procedure and Privileges Committee
  3. Culture Committee

Composition of Committees

  1. The Management Committee shall consist of the Chairperson of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi as the committee chairperson and five other members appointed by the Ntlo Ya Dikgosi
  2. The Procedure and Privileges Committee shall consist of the Chairperson of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi as the committee chairperson and five other members appointed by Ntlo Ya Dikgosi
  3. The Culture committee shall consist of the Deputy Chairperson, who shall be the committee chairperson, and five other members appointed by  Ntlo Ya Dikgosi

Meetings of Committees

The first meeting of any committee shall be held at such time and place as the committee chairperson may determine and thereafter subsequent meetings shall be held at such time and place as the committee may determine. Four members of the committee , including the chairperson ,shall form a quorum.

Management Committee

The functions of the Management Committee are as follows;

  • Considers and advises Government on matters concerning the affairs of the Ntlo Ya Dikgosi as may be referred to it by the Chairperson.
  • Determine any issue referred to the Committee by the National Assembly or the Executive
  • Consider and examine policies and legislation affecting the institution of Bogosi
  • Makes recommendations to Government for the review of policies and legislation affecting the institution of Bogosi
  • Reviews all aspects of the Ntlo Ya Dikgosi administration, traditions, procedures and practices; and
  • Recommends the desired reforms on aspects of  Ntlo Ya Dikgosi to Government

Procedure and Privileges Committee

The functions of the Procedure and Privileges Committee are as follows;

  • Considers any amendments of the Rules of Procedure of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi where it deems such amendments necessary or desirable and reports to Ntlo Ya Dikgosi
  • It investigates and considers alleged contravention of these Rules; and
  • Updates Ntlo Ya Dikgosi on any resolution, recommendation and determination of the Committee.

Culture Committee

The functions of the Culture Committee are as follows;

  • To promote tradition, culture and custom in society; and
  • To enhance moral regeneration
